Hill Country Happenings - Ad Specifications, Prices and Specs
CHECKLIST

STEP 1
WORDS
Spell and grammar check your article. Be sure you have all the names spelled right.

A full page feature should be about 750-800 words if you are including two or three photos.  A half page or smaller article would be reduced in proportion.

A common mistake is to judge your page size from inside your word processor. A writer types a page in Word and thinks it will suffice for the magazine. It will if you are viewing your document with the Arial font at 9 points.  Otherwise you are probably viewing your article in your word processor in Times New Roman at 12 points. Check your word count to be sure.

IMAGES:

TRY NOT TO USE WEB IMAGES

Web images are generally too small or have insufficient color depth to print well. An image for inclusion in an article should be at least 3 megapixels and should be 1MG in size or larger.

Images should be in the following file format(s), in order of preference:

.PDF Adobe Acrobat
.PSD Photoshop format (flattened)
.TIF (or .TIFF)
.PNG (recommended for transparent layer)
.BMP
.JPG (least preferable format)

We DO NOT take images in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or in .GIF format.

If you have no images but would like to include something from the stock library, please let us know.
STEP 2
IMAGES
You MUST use the following file naming convention to upload your article and images:

The file name should be broken up into three parts separated by hyphens so we can tell who the ad is from and when it will run.

ArticleName-Author-Issue.Filetype. Example:

HowToBakeAPie-MarySmith-July2010.PDF

(the .PDF may not be your file type and is for example only.)

So if you have a rodeo article and are uploading a  page for November, the file name might look like this:

TheRodeoRide-BuckCowboy-November2010.PDF

STEP 3
PACKAGE
If your article has more than one file, if you are using photos or images for example, combine the document and image files into one file using .Zip or other compression.

If you don't have a compression utility, you can upload the images one at a time and use the "Article Title" box for the image names, be sure to keep the Author and Article information intact.
STEP 4
UPLOAD

If you are sure of your article copy and have read and adhered to the standards described above, you are ready to upload your work. Please fill in all the blanks when using the upload form . Thank you.
